Why We Need To Change Our Skin Care Habits

Skin Care Results

Zits can happen at the most unexpected and inopportune moment. You’ve spent your day in anticipation of going out on the town, and there it is. A red, angry bump that stands out like a beacon in the dark. Even complete diligence can’t ensure that you’ll avoid developing acne. Sometimes the appearance of a zit indicates its time to change up your skincare routine. Why a change may be necessary varies from case to case.

Understanding Why To Change Your Skincare Routine

It’s well known that everyone’s skin is different. We may have different areas that are oily and dry, and some areas may be rougher than others. Identifying your skin is the first step towards ensuring your skin is in good shape.

  • Your Skin Is Dry – Dry skin can be a serious challenge to maintaining healthy and beautiful skin. Not only is dry skin flakey, but it can be difficult to obscure with makeup. It doesn’t help that dry skin likes to show up in areas that are less than flattering. If your skin is particularly dry, it can indicate a problem with your product. Alcohol, benzoyl peroxide, and various preservatives and fragrances can be to blame.
  • Your Skin Is Oily – Oily skin can happen for a lot of reasons. It can be identified by a greasy shine rather than a healthy glow. If you’ve been meticulously caring for your skin and this happens, it’s time for a product change. However, don’t jump to ditching your moisturizer. Your skin may be overcompensating for dryness, so moisturizing may help. Do be certain to thoroughly clean your skin before bed, however.
  • Redness and Discoloration – In spite of your best efforts, your routine may result in redness. This may be a clear sign that you’re using water that is too hot, or an unpopped zit may be responding to your medication. Make sure to switch to cool water, and take care when medicating your acne.
  • Stinging And Irritation – While there’s a popular saying that “Beauty is Pain,” this doesn’t have to be the case. Your face care routine should be relaxing and soothing, not painful and stingy. If you’re experiencing stinging and pain as part of your care, it’s time to change products.
  • Milia Development – White bumps on the skin are known as milia. They’re not zits, but the result of using the wrong kind of moisturizer on the face. If you’ve ever wondered if your body moisturizer can be used as part of your facial care, the answer is no. Switch back to a facial moisturizer and clean thoroughly. They should fade in time.

These represent just a few of the important signs that you may need to change up your skincare routine.
