Female Genital Plastic Surgery

For various reasons, women such as yourself consider labiaplasty surgery. Changes in the external female genitals occur due to several factors. Genetics, childbirth, aging and weight loss may lead to a distortion in the appearance and function of both the labia minora and majora.  The labia minora may hang beneath the labia major, become bulky and distorted. Irritation while sitting, walking or exercising is experienced. Interference with intercourse and hygiene has been reported. Labiaplasty reshapes and reduces the size and protrusion of the labia.

What is Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a procedure offered by Doctor Moynahan that shapes the labia minora. Usually, this involves a reduction in length. Labiaplasty can help to alleviate discomfort or Irritation while sitting, walking or exercising.

Labiaplasty Procedures

According to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the most common type of labiaplasty is the trim procedure, in which the extra tissue is removed and sewn up directly. The wedge procedure is another labiaplasty procedure that maintains a natural border. It is also common for extra folds of the clitoral hood to be reduced at the same time. The closure is typically performed using absorbable sutures.

Recovering from Labiaplasty

Typically we recommend that patients take a week off of work where they can take it easy and rest. During this time it is important to use ice/cold packs to reduce swelling in the area of the procedure. We also recommend that you wear loose and comfortable clothes during this time.

The benefits of plastic surgery are more than physical.

  • Many satisfied patients experience increased confidence
  • A rise in self-esteem then follows.
  • Patients have reported being “happier” and looking and feeling their “best.”
  • Many said they felt a positive impact on their quality of life.
